Don’t even think about using the word ‘prominent.’ Foreheads are prominent. If you’re going to tell me about what you’ve seen, you need to tell me about the structure’s size, its shape, its contour, its position. No ‘prominent.’”

That’s the sort of guidance radiologist Carl Fuhrman (MD ’79) was famous for giving. A celebrated teacher, Fuhrman challenged students to be precise in their language and observations.

UPMC Diagnostic Radiology Residency Program Captures Second Place in AUR Vydareny Imaging Interpretation Competition on November 2020

The UPMC Radiology residents and faculty competed in the recent virtual Vydareny Imaging Interpretation competition hosted by the Association of University Radiologists. Forty-three teams from across the country competed over two days, and the UPMC team came in 2nd place this year, improving on their 3rd place finish from last year. We are looking forward to competing in next year's competition!

Virtual Happy Hour for the 2020 DR and IR Residency Applicant

November 12, 2020.

The UPMC Radiology Chief Residents and Residents hosted a virtual happy hour for the 2020 DR and IR Residency applicants. They provided information about the city of Pittsburgh as well as the Residency Program. Individual small group sessions followed. One hundred and thirteen interested applicants attended this virtual session.

Dr. John Feist

Dr. John Feist, a renowned chest radiologist at the University of Pittsburgh for 40 years passed away peacefully in his adopted state of Vermont. John was one of the founding fathers of the Department of Radiology. He started his radiology career at the University of Pittsburgh in 1957 and he was key contributor to the department’s exponential growth. He memorialized those early success in a 1994 AJR article: http://radiology.pitt.edu/our-history.html. Dr. Feist was the interim Department Chair in the late 1960s and was the Director of Outpatient Radiology at the Falk Clinic in the early 1980s. He was a Fellow of the American College of Radiology and was a past President of the Pennsylvania Radiological Society.
